The idea for Checkmate Group began when I helped out a family friend with everything from Google Ads to photography and design. I quickly earned the nickname “Go-to guy” for marketing support, inspiring me to turn this into a full-fledged brand.

The name Checkmate reflects the strategic thinking my father taught me through chess, a mindset I apply to every project and business decision.

We pride ourselves on quality, building personal relationships, and fostering long-term partnerships. We aim to operate with Courtesy, Integrity, and Perseverance.

I’m Josh - though most people I work with just call me JP. I’m the guy behind Checkmate Group, bringing together design, branding, photography, Google & 3D photography, social media reels, and all things creative. Whether it’s crafting sharp visuals in Adobe Photoshop or building engaging virtual tours, I love helping businesses grow and capturing memories people can keep.

I’ve also gathered a small, talented team around me, including Alex—our video editor and After Effects specialist—and Olly, our sound engineer and musical expert. Along with some more incredible members of the team we cover every creative angle.

My approach? I’m known for what I call the “Bully’s Prize Board”: someone brings me an idea, and I show them that idea, plus my take on it and variations they hadn’t even thought of.

From this i received the nickname “Go-to guy”, stuck early on when friends and family turned to me for marketing support and creative solutions. That inspired me to build Checkmate Group—a place where ideas come alive and grow beyond expectations.

Outside work, I’m into ITF Taekwondo, Muay Thai, the gym, and modified cars—so I’m all about discipline, creativity, and a bit of adrenaline. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Business & Management, started my design journey at 15 years of age, and went on to become a Google Street View Trusted photographer, helping independent businesses boost their online presence.

Alex can’t stop completing what we call “side quests”, one minute he is competing in the RAF ski team, next minute he’s on the boat in the Med. Alex is an engineer in the RAF, with these qualities fast paced quality work is his strong point.

Olly spends his spare time also in ITF Taekwondo, driving, and snowboarding. If none of these, he’s playing one of many instruments in his band. Holding a Level 3 National Diploma in Studio and Live Sound engineering, he’s the musical man for the job.
